U.S. Ambassador Reportedly Killed in Libya Attack




U.S. ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three staff were killed in a rocket attack in the city of Benghazi on Tuesday night local time. He and his staff at that time was in a car.

"The American ambassador and his staff were killed when three armed men fired rockets at them," said a Libyan official told Reuters on Wednesday. CNN and BBC news station also reported the same news.

According to the Libyan official who was not named, Mr Stevens and his staff at that time was on his way to a place of refuge after protesters attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and firing guns, killing a staff. When they protested the news of the film by U.S. citizens who insulted the Prophet Muhammad.

The body of Mr Stevens then evacuated the U.S. Embassy by military plane to Tripoli, to be flown to the U.S.. Still no word from Washington to confirm the death of Stevens.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister of Libya, Mustafa Abu Shagour, confirmed that Mr Stevens died from an attack. "I condemn the action of cowards who attacked the U.S. consulate and killed Mr. Stevens along with other diplomats," said Abu Shagur in her account on Twitter.
