Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that his country is not afraid of the threat of missile attacks from Israel. He even said that Israel is a country with no history and will soon be destroyed from the face of the earth.
Reported by Reuters, this was said Ahmadinejad in a meeting with editors on the sidelines of the 67th PBB General Assembly in New York, Monday, September 24, 2012. In his comments, as usual, Ahmadinejad refused to mention the name "Israel" and replace with "Zionist."
"Basically we do not take seriously the threat of the Zionist. We got all defensive system and we are ready to defend ourselves," Ahmadinejad said.
Ahmadinejad is scheduled to address the PBB General Assembly on Wednesday. Earlier, PBB Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has warned Ahmadinejad to not raise issues that could jeopardize the Middle East.
In previous years, at the PBB podium Ahmadinejad said that the United States was behind the attack on 9/11. He also insisted that Iran rejected Israeli sovereignty. Normally, if Ahmadinejad's speech, representatives of Israel, the U.S. and Western nations walked out of the courtroom.
"Iran has been rising from 10 thousand years ago. They (Israel) have occupied the land for 60-70 years and with the support of Western powers. They do not have roots in history," Ahmadinejad said referring to the Israeli occupation in 1948.
"We believe they were deadlocked and they are looking for new opportunities to get out of the impasse. Iranians will not be destroyed by foreign bombs. We would not even allow them (Israel) as a problem for Iran. Throughout history, they (Israel) only makes the problem trivial and will be destroyed, "said Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad's comments immediately got a response from the government of the United States. White House spokesman, Tommy Vietor, said the U.S. will continue to assist Israel in securing its sovereignty.
"Ahmadinejad's comments are very disgusting, offensive and bad. They once again affirmed the U.S. commitment to Israel's security is unshakeable on, and why the world should make Iran accountable for their failure to meet obligations,"
